Citrus Overview
Louis Dreyfus Commodities is one of the world’s three largest processors of orange juice, accounting for more than 15 percent of global production. It operates processing facilities in Brazil and Florida with a combined annual capacity of more than 83 million boxes of oranges, producing 330,000 tons of orange juice. The company has also made a significant investment in Brazilian orange groves.
Orange juice is a growing business. World demand has been growing at annual rates of 2 percent to 4 percent, and LDCommodities has grown its production at a faster pace.
Customers for wholesale orange juices are primarily consumer products companies, packing and distribution companies and retail operations, which package and distribute the product for retail sale. LDCommodities seeks to develop and maintain stable long-term relationships with customers and uses a number of strategies to reach this objective.
The company works closely with key customers to develop special blends of orange juice with particular characteristics to meet their retail marketing requirements. Its commercial and technical staffs make regular visits to customers and host them at company facilities. This allows customers to discuss further product development opportunities.
LDCommodities is unique in its ability to offer a full suite of comprehensive risk management products to customers, including products to manage commodity price and volume risks.
