Sugar Brazil
Louis Dreyfus Commodities, one of the leading sugar and alcohol exporters in Brazil, handles sugar and sugar by-products including raw and white sugar, ethanol, anhydrous and hydrated alcohol, active dry yeast, fermentation and synthetic ethyl alcohol. The company is present in all major sugar-producing areas in Brazil and maintains close relationships with the country’s main sugar mills.
In addition to trading, LDCommodities is actively involved in the sugar and alcohol production industry in Brazil, owning three Brazilian sugar mills that produce 450,000 tons of sugar and 150,000 cubic meters of alcohol annually. These mills are located in Cresciumal in Leme, State of São Paulo, Luciânia, in Lagoa da Prata, State of Minas Gerais and São Carlos in State of São Paulo, the latter being owner of the sugar brand Dinalsucar, sold throughout the State of Minas Gerais.
Anhydrous and hydrated alcohol are supplied to large fuel distributors and chemical industries. LDCommodities also sells active dry yeast, a vegetal protein for animal feed, derived from alcohol fermentation. In keeping with the aim of exploring new opportunities, the sugar mills generate renewable electric power from the burning of sugarcane bagasse. All excess energy is directed towards electric generators, contributing to the supply of regional electricity.
Ethanol

By utilizing its global resources, LDCommodities is better able to understand and service a complex global market.
Customers are provided with regular information about the ethanol market and assisted in the sourcing and placement of ethanol to enhance their profitability. The company’s technical expertise ensures that the quality of ethanol moved is maintained during every phase of handling and transportation. All parties in the supply chain are coordinated to ensure that both products and documents flow smoothly from origin to destination.
LDCommodities produces ethanol from sugarcane at three mills in central Brazil. A fourth plant is currently under construction in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as a duplication of one of the existing mills. The product is marketed both in Brazil and internationally.
